Microscope slides form part of our Scientific Instrument department which holds two fine sales per year with one in the spring and another in the late autumn. These sales are very well publicised with adverts in all the main trade publications. The catalogues are full colour and sent to collectors, institutes and museums across the world.

Flints scientific instrument department achieved some impressive prices for microscope slides including a world record price of £1440.00 (inc Premium at 20%) at a UK auction for a single slide. One of the highlights of our April 2018 ‘Fine Photographica & Instruments of Science & Medicine’ auction sale was this collection of 67 very good microscope slides in a flip front storage case. The collection included 24 mineral sections, a microphotograph of ’97 Dramatic Portraits’, 6 insect slides by Enock, several exhibition diatom slides, number of slides by Horace Dall. Sold For £1440.00 inc buyers premium – A World record price for a single slide sold at a UK auction house
This simple looking slide actually holds 1200 diatoms and butterfly scales arranged as a vase surrounded by a garland. It dates from C.1880 and was made by the firm of Clark & Page. The labels read ‘Entomology Design in Insect Scales & Diatoms Reg No. 32’ and ‘Containing About 1200 Pieces in the Design’, on opaque white glass in leather covered velvet & silk lined case.
