A Compound Cary 'Lucernal' Microscope Outfit

English, c.1810, engraved 'CARY LONDON' to inner drawer, mahogany case with circular threaded brass boss to one corner, for support pillar to screw, body constructed of turned mahogany, with a fine grain maroon Moroccan leather covering, both ends finished with lacquered brass collars, into one collar screws the eyepiece made up of a series of large diameter lenses, consisting of a pair of plano-convex (46mm diameter), bi-convex and plano-convex (58mm diameter), other collar contains a single drawer tube, engraved with signature and focus mechanism, via a wheel at side of tube, single drawer tube with fine thread into which simple objectives fit, objectives are numbered ‘1’, ‘2’ and ‘3’, two circular lacquered brass bases hold telescopic supports for a sprung stage and an oil lamp with a condenser lens
