A 19th Century Domestic Medicine Chest

English, mahogany trunk-type chest with brass fittings, ruched plush-lining to the lid and a small paper label for ‘Corbyn & Company 86 New Bond St Corner of Oxford St’, the lifting lid to compartments housing a glass pill tile, four larger, six medium and eight smaller glass pharmacy bottles with stoppers (all bottles empty), one with aforementioned retailer’s content label, with brass retaining rod to drawer beneath, a detachable section housing a handheld steel and glass balance, with a glass mortar and pestle and three (of four) tin boxes for powder housed beneath, a further six small bottles and stopper, five with printed content labels, and two slim compartments with sliding doors one containing a graduated (in spoon measures) glass measure in a case – 26.7cm x 22.2cm x 17cm.
