English, c. 1890, engraved to the foot ‘J Swift & Son, London’, and engraved at the side ‘I.c.S.T. Geo Lab 887’, on a black enamelled tripod base with trunnions to the top supporting the microscope body, plano-concave mirror in a gimbal on an articulated arm on a sliding collar, graduated polariser on a swing in/out holder, focusing condenser on a swing out arm, rotating graduated stage with clips, with screw fine focus, rack and pinion course focus, body tube with focus scale, centring nosepiece, slide in/out filter holder slot, a slide in/out analyser, Bertrand Lens , analyser eyepiece with crosshairs. Height 40cm.
