A Fine Set of Amputation Knives by Camillus Nyrop

Danish, dated 1844, set of six amputation knives in polished carbon steel, carved ivory handles, silver ferrules with traces of original gilding, each signed 'Camillus Nyrop' in velvet-lined mahogany case, inner lid with silver plaque 'C Nyrop Kjobenhavn', top of lid with silver plaque engraved ' Stein 1st November 1844, case 36.5cm [CITES].

Note: Camillus Nyrop (1811-1883) was apprenticed to Joseph-Frédéric-Benoît Charrière in 1836 and became official instrument maker to the Royal Danish Academy of Surgery in 1841.
