An Important Stereo Archive of Turn of the Century French Colonial Ha Giang, Indochina - Part 1

A collection of 8 card cases of stereo veroscope-type glass slides (4.5cm x 10.6cm) each with hand written details of contents in French to the lid, each box numbered and marked with the name M Cantin.

The slides provide a delightfully authentic insight into the area of Ha Giang in Indochina occupying the Northern boarder region of Vietnam with China in around 1905, the slides record everyday life capturing landscapes with wooded mountains and hills with a river, possibly the Lo River, they show French military along with local officials with the local indigenous people, there are images of settlements, military base houses and construction of a large European looking building, there are images of every day activities including logging, thatching, house building, hunting and images of dogs and horses, street scenes and markets, prisoner in stocks, mining, Chinese dragon dancing, Festival scenes with traditional dress, overall the collection gives and excellent picture of French Colonial life, work and day to day events from the turn of the Century (Approximately 100+ slides)
