Glass Plates Dover and Naval Review 1897

2 boxes containing 24 quarter plate, glass negatives on dry plates.

Box 1 containing 12 plates showing ships attending the Naval Review at Spithead on 12th June 1897. The Review was to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria, which was attended by the Prince of Wales.

Over 160 ships and boats attended, including 50 battleships and an appearance by Parson's Turbinia to promote steam propulsion. Poor exposure and many out of focus.

Box 2 contains 12 plates in Dover c1897, showing ships in dock, sailing ships and harbour scenes. Excellent images, good composition and exposure.
