Louise-Victor de Broglie Autographed Document

a printed scientific offprint from 'C. R. Acad. Sc. Paris' titled 'Physique Theoreique. - Sur les veritables idees de base de la Mechanique ondulatoire' ( Physics Theory - on the real basic ideas of wave mechanics) signed and inscribed on the the first page in ink 'Avec l'hommage de l'auter - Louis de Broglie, with original envelope - all in fine to very fine condition.

Louis de Broglie was a French physicist who made groundbreaking contributions to the field of quantum mechanics. Born on August 15, 1892, in Dieppe, France, de Broglie was the son of a noble family. He studied at the Sorbonne in Paris, where he earned a degree in physics in 1924.

De Broglie's most famous contribution to physics was his theory of wave-particle duality, which he proposed in his doctoral thesis in 1924. According to this theory, particles such as electrons could exhibit both wave-like and particle-like behavior, depending on how they were observed.

De Broglie's theory of wave-particle duality was a major breakthrough in the development of quantum mechanics, and it helped to lay the foundation for many of the important discoveries that followed. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1929 in recognition of his contributions to the field.

In addition to his work on wave-particle duality, de Broglie also made important contributions to the study of atomic and molecular structure, and he proposed a theory of the internal structure of electrons known as the de Broglie-Bohm theory.

Louis de Broglie died on March 19, 1987, at the age of 94. His contributions to the field of quantum mechanics continue to influence the study of physics and have paved the way for many important scientific discoveries.

Estimated at £600 - £800
