Borough of Blackpool Working Standard Avoirdupois Bell Weights

English, dated 1890, weights engraved 'BOROUGH OF BLACKPOOL' and numbered 2198, with many large calibration verification and Exchequer marks, in a large waxed oak case with steel strapping and folding steel handles, engraved brass plaque to the lid reads 'BOROUGH OF BLACKPOOL', the Avoirdupois weights of standard bell-shape in gunmetal consisting of weights 56lb down to 1lb with the small flat weights from 8oz to 1dram in a separate French polished mahogany case (the 1/4oz, 2 dram and 1 dram later replacements and missing the 1/2dram weight)

Footnote: this set of weights was specially made to be used by the weights and measures department to calibrate any of the inspector's weights that were to be taken out on site. The weights are fitted with a screw cap with adjusting cavity below to the base. A feature only used on working standard weights.
