Our next dedicated sale of photographs will be held on 9th September 2021. This features a good selection of vintage photographs from the 1850s to the 1980s. Early photography includes the work of Hill & Adamson, Charles Marville and Roger Fenton. We have a wide range of outstanding ethnographic studies in the sale, including a fine orotone of Native Americans by Edward S Curtis, a study of a Maori chief by Elizabeth Pulman, and an interesting group of photographs taken by Lt Somerfield, photographer on the survey ship 'Penguin', visiting the Solomon Islands in 1893.
The auction includes a variety of avant-garde work from the first half of the 20th century, and also features vintage prints from well-known photographers from the 1960s, 70s and 80s such as Cecil Beaton, Annie Leibovitz, Patrick Lichfield and Jan Saudek.
Flints photograph auctions cover photography from the earliest techniques through to collectable late 20th century images.
20th Century subjects include modernist and contemporary art photography, fashion photography, documentary photographs and photojournalism. Past sales have achieved excellent prices for works by Cecil Beaton, Ruth Bernhard, John Bulmer, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Lucinda Douglas-Menzies, Gillian Edelstein, Philippe Halsman, Bert Hardy, Germaine Krull, John Minihan, José Ortiz Echagüe, Gordon Parkes, Steve Pyke, Ken Regan, George Roger, Jan Saudek, Lord Snowdon, Graham Smith and many others.
