An 18th Century Silver Bleeding Bowl/Porringer

of typical form, with naively pierced spatulate handle (evidence of soldering at join), engraved with ‘P.’ over ‘F.M’ – 8.6cm. wide, bowl, 3.4cm. high, 72g.

Note: Previously bought at Sotheby’s on 31st August, 1988 (Lot 706a). The vendor believed the silversmith (mark’s no longer extant) was Richard Gimes and dated the bowl 1719-1720.
