Sir David Brewster, a Scottish scientist, invented the kaleidoscope in 1816 while experimenting with optical patterns. Brewster, fascinated by light and optics, created the device by placing mirrors at angles to reflect colorful fragments into beautiful symmetrical designs. Although he patented the invention in 1817, he failed to profit from it due to patent loopholes. Despite this, the kaleidoscope became an instant sensation across all social classes, enhancing Brewster’s legacy as a pioneer in optics and experimental science. He made significant contributions to fields like polarization and light reflection.
