Magic Lantern Rare Kaleidoscope Lantern Projection Lens

English, c.1870, engraved to the barrel of the lens 'Newton & Co, London', for use with a magic lantern, with three kaleidoscope slides. An adaptation of David Brewster's 1816 invention, using a pair of internal mirrors in a 'V' formation between two lenses in a brass tube. A disc containing loose components is rotated within the lens barrel to create changing abstract patterns, length 21cm
