A Very Unusual Photograph Taken Through A Compound Eye

English, small brown envelope with hand painted image of a spider on a white background, labeled in pencil '450 diameters, photo thro' compound eye of beetle, 2 plates GLASS', containing two glass negatives, one of a close up the eye sections and another negative through the eye of the photographer, with four photographs of portraits through the eye, on labelled to the reverse 'Photograph reproduced by each lens a beetles eye' by F. W. Chipps ( his own portrait) Reproduced at fig 142 of vol XV Jnl of the Photomicroscopic Society'

Footnote: this is one of the only images taken using a microscope through the eye of a beetle we are aware of.
