Goodbrand & Co Ltd was founded around 1876 as Goodbrand & Holland, a partnership between Walter Goodbrand and Thomas Eccles Holland. Initially based in Manchester, the company specialized in engineering, textile testing machines, and mill machinery. By 1895, it operated from Southall Ironworks, expanding into milling engineering and pump making. After the partnership dissolved in 1897, Walter Goodbrand continued under the name Goodbrand & Co. By 1900, the works had relocated to Britannia Foundry, Stalybridge, with offices in Manchester. Known for a wide range of equipment, including steam pumps and textile testing machines, the company showcased its innovations at the 1887 Royal Jubilee Exhibition and the 1924 British Empire Exhibition at Wembley.
