English, c.1860-1880, the bell follows the form of the Rein 'Grand Opera' dome ear trumpet, n silver plate with profuse engraving over the entire trumpet, lower circumference of the dome engraved ‘F C Rein and Son Patentees sole inventors and only makers 108 Strand London’, fine decorative grille, the tube can be detached from the bell, and the silver plated tube end is engraved with the same decoration and wording,, the tube is covered in black woven silk, and the earpiece vulcanite, diameter of bell 13.8cm, overall length 130cm
