Pritchard's Achromatic Engiscope, or Microscope

English, c.1840, engraved 'A. Pritchard' and with Pritchard's 1838-1856 address, '162 Fleet Street', the microscope standing on a 'Y' shaped base with single pillar support with height adjustment terminating in a compass joint, round bar holding the single-sided mirror in a gimbal, with slot for stage to accept the stage or vial holder, triangular bar with rack and pinion focusing, bar limb to the top, screw in body tube with fine focus screw to the side, the microscope comes with a good set of original accessories including; an objective and can engraved '1/3 inch A Pritchard 162 Fleet Street, London' 3 other objectives engraved A 1/4, A 2/3 and C 1/7, a mechanical stage , a Bonnani-type stage, a vial holder dark well, stage forceps, slides vials and bottles, other accessories and tools, a large table bullseye condenser, all in the original table cabinet with 6 drawers and 2 doors, finished in French polished mahogany, cabinet width 48cm

Footnote: this microscope is designed to be set up as standard vertical compound microscope, and, as a horizontal microscope for viewing live organisms using the vial holder.
