A Collection of 7 Unusual Microscope Slides

comprising of the following slides: (1) a slide with a label that reads 'Ash From COTOPAXI wh (which) Fell on Whimpers Tent when on Chimborazo 65 miles off July 2 1880' - Edward Whymper FRSE (b. 27 April 1840 – d.16 September 1911) was an English mountaineer, explorer, illustrator, and author best known for the first ascent of the Matterhorn in 1865. Whymper also made important first ascents on the Mont Blanc massif and in the Pennine Alps, Chimborazo in South America, and the Canadian Rockies. During 1880, Whymper made two ascents of Chimborazo (6,267m), including its first ascent. Whymper spent a night on the summit of Cotopaxi presumable where the ash for this slide was collected. In 1892, he published the results of his journey in a volume entitled Travels amongst the Great Andes of the Equator; (2) a slide with a label that reads 'Wm Penns Tree Philadelphia, Pa, Sections E. Wheeler' - William Penn (14 October 1644 – 30 July 1718) was an English writer and religious thinker belonging to the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), and founder of the Province of Pennsylvania, a North American colony of England. He was an early advocate of democracy and religious freedom, notable for his good relations and successful treaties with the Lenape Native Americans; (3) slide labeled Butterfly Scales Exhibition Bunch of Flowers 300 Parts, K. D. Kemp, (4) slide labeled Butterfly Scales Exhibition Bunch of Flowers 100 Parts, K. D. Kemp, (5) slide labeled Fossil Wood from Van Diemen's Land from the tree and the exhibition 1851 mounted 1941 Nov 11 W(?) S O, (6) a slide labeled 'Wood from the celebrated flock of merino sheep belonging to the late Emporer of France, (7) a slide labeled North Atlantic Soundings from 2 miles deep, 1866' by E Wheeler (7)
