Medical Diagnosis, A Hematimetre by Hayem & Nachet

French, c.1880, a rare early form of Haemacytometer, invented by Georges Hayem and made by the instrument maker Nachet, it consists of a microscope stage plate, signed 'NACHET A PARIS' with glass slide witha 1cm diameter, 0.2cm deep reservoir, a substage condensor with screws directly into the stage plate appears to project the image of a graticule onto the slide (?), the set includes a glass sample tube with brass stand, cover slips, a glass stirring rod, a glass pipette, and a thermometer signed 'Nachet a Paris' , all in fitted velvet and silk lined case, 'NACHET 17 RUE SAINT SEVERIN PARIS'in gilt in the lid, black Morocco covered case with 'HEMATIMETRE HAYEM & NACHET' in gilt letters, case 14.6cm across.

Note: This is an early version of the instrument, later variations are signed 'Nachet & Fils'

Condition Report: Complete and generally good, brass retains original lacquer, thermometer broken, no mercury. Slight surface rust on steel stage clips, case in good orverall condition, loss of leather around catch, some wear to silk and velvet.
