A Leica IIg Rangefinder Camera
1956, chrome, serial no. 848442, body, VG, shutter working
Notes: We believe this is a genuine IIg. The serial numbers match and if this was a 'franken-camera', we might find that the lever that interacts with the slow speed and the escapement might still be in place. That was absent as it should be. If the camera originally was fitted with a self-timer, we would expect marks on the edges of the screw holes for the self-timer. The camera has clearly been serviced during its life and there are clear signs of this.
All of the screw-holes on the front plate have marks on the edges caused by the tips of screwdrivers. The metal is very soft and these marks are difficult to avoid. However, the screwholes for the self-timer are clean and it doesn’t look as if they were ever used.
Blocking the hole for the slow speeds would be easy. Blocking the ST hole is difficult because of the vulcanite but could be done using an Ig shell I guess but it’s the fact that those three ST holes are clean that suggests to us that this was never a IIIg or Ig serial number if it is a converted Ig, started around 887xxx, so it can’t be that either.
The above is our opinion, however, it is up to the buyer to satisfy themselves prior to bidding and is sold as per our terms and conditions laid out.
