A Fine Pair of Newton & Co Phantasmagoria Dissolving Magic Lanterns

circa 1880, complete with two brass lenses, folding fan dissolve, two chimneys, two wooden slide changers and the original wooden box with mounting points to the top, each lantern has an embossed brass maker's plates to doors reading 'Newton & Co, Opticians, 3 Fleet Street, Temple Bar, London', and each oil illuminant marked 'Newton & Co Patent No. 1957 3 Wick Refulgent Lamp for Magic Lanterns….', lanterns display some light signs of overpainting

Provenance: This lantern includes an original letter from 1973 detailing the discovery of this lantern outfit inside a wall in the Baptist church in Hitchin
