English, c.1820, engraved to the pump housing 'VARLEY LONDON' teh Vacuum pump mounted on a polished wooden base with bun feet, with unusual pump mechanism similar in operation to a Tabel-type Steam Engine, crank handle is held in a rocking mount with a crank moving the piston up and down, pipework to brass base plate with glass bell jar with open top and brass hook, with pair of Magdenburgh hemispheres, base 34cm wide
