This copy was purchased by T.E.C.Wheeler and
carries his signature on the fly-leaf. This
was during the years when he was working with
The J.A.Prestwich Manufacturing Company,
The Warwick Trading Company, and also
Kearton, Barley & Co - all well-known and very
early manufacturers of Motion Picture equipment.
There are only two copies of Living Pictures
still known to exist - this one, and another in
the Kodak Libraries at Harrow.
The book is extremely important for the following
reasons:-
(1) It contains proof of the date when the
Newman& Guardia camera was built - see
pages 179, 180 & 181.
(2) It contains a complete list of all the early
basic British Patents in Cinematography from
1851 up to 1898 (pp 235 - 253)
(3) It contains an annotated bibliography of all
important developments in cinematography
from 1825 up to 1898 (pp 254 - 265)
It is impossible to say how valuable this work
is to any organisation seriously concerned
with the history of cinematography it would be
absolutely priceless.
