1971, red cloth-bound album, cover title 'With the compliments of the Government of the Midwestern State of Nigeria, Photographs', and inside cover 'On the Occation of the Visit of Mr Mohammed Ali (alias Cassius Clay) World's Greatest Boxing Champion, Information Department Benin City, vintage gelatin silver prints printed immediately after the visit, pasted one per page, double-sided; Section 1: Arrival at Benin Airport, Courtesy Call on the Acting Military Govenor, Press Conference, 18 prints each featuring Ali; Section 2: Courtesy Visit to H. H. Akenzua II, nine prints, eight with Ali, one with His Highness and William Davis; Section 3: Exhibition Bout at Ogbe stadium Benin City 37 prints (18 with Ali in the ring), 35 with Ali; Section 4: Press Conference and Luncheon Party Benin City, 21 prints, 10 with Ali, (85 prints in all, typically 16.5cm x 21.5cm, album 25cm x 34cm x4.2cm).
Provenance: Presented to the Tour Organiser, William Davis (from there by descent).
Condition Report: All extant photographs in good condition, significant fading to blue album pages, one page has been cut out, now replaced loose, the photogragh recto removed, wear to album spine (see online images)
