Brendel Didactic Botanical Model of Secale Cerale

Secale Cerale, Berlin c. 1900, painted wood, papermache, and plaster, on original turned wood stand, model with damages and losses, height 38cm. Secale is a genus belonging to the grass tribe Triticeae, closely related to barley (Hordeum) and wheat (Triticum). Within this genus, there are both cultivated and wild species of rye, with the most prominent one being Secale cereale, commonly known as cultivated rye. Additionally, the Secale genus encompasses various weedy and wild rye species, demonstrating the diversity within the genus.

Robert Brendel - In the mid-19th century, specifically during the years 1821-1898, Robert Brendel established a notable botanical flower factory in Breslau, which is now known as Wroclaw in Poland. His factory specialized in crafting botanical flowers, making a significant contribution to the field during that era
