Two Bistoury Cachés

the first, French, late 19th Century, by Mathieu a Paris, steel with gently curved shank and concealed blade, stamped with numbered demarcation lines 1-4 (unevenly spaced), operated via screw adjustable fenestrated lever, with cross hatch, ebony handle with plated ferrule – 26.3cm. long; the second, possibly Continental, 19th Century, the steel shank with concealed blade operated via spring-loaded lever, stamped with maker’s mark (indistinct) and anchor, with horn handle – 18.6cm. long

Note: The first was previously bought at David Stanley Auction on 31st March, 2007 (Lot 447). The second previously bought at Christie's, South Kensington on 11th July, 1997 (Lot 36).
