A Substantial Victorian Medicine Chest

English, c.1880, unsigned, the substantial cabinet constructed of French polished heavy mahogany, the lid opens to reveal a black leather covered compartment for various tools and notes (now all missing), front folds down to reveal a French polished mahogany box containing various canvas medical instrument wraps (all empty), on top is a ceramic pill tablet, in the base is a lift out French polished mahogany tray containing a glass mortar and pestle, and other various items, around the edge of the cabinet are arranged various glass bottles with 7 empty compartments, 3 containing other bottles,

Note: the construction of this chest and the size of the bottles suggests that this cabinet would have been used aboard a ship, the pill tile at the front suggests it was used for dispensing medicines.

Estimated at £1,400 - £1,800
