French Double Refraction Apparatus

c.1900, French, signed 'M.on. Jules Duboscq Ph Pellin Paris', with screw mechanism for rotating disc engraved '0-180-0' with vernier, hinged on compass-type joint on lacquered brass column on cast iron tripod case, marked with old institue inventory number O.3. in white paint to base, height 49cm Note: The Duboscq firm of scientific instrument makers began as Soleil in the early 19th century in Paris. Jules Dubosque and nephew Albert Alexis were formally in partnership for only a few years with the company finishing as Pellin in the early 20th Century.
