County of Lancaster, Avoirdupois Bell Working Standard Weights
English, dated 1847 and engraved 'COUNTY OF LANCASTER OMSKIRK DIVISION, 1847' all with calibration verification and Exchequer marks all stamped out, in a large green painted oak case with folding steel handles, engraved brass plaque to the lid, the Avoirdupois weights of standard bell-shape in gunmetal consisting of weights 56lb down to 1lb with the small flat weights from 8oz to 1dram in a separate French polished mahogany case (missing 5 weights)
Footnote: this set of weights was specially made to be used by the weights and measures department to calibrate any of the inspector's weights that were to be taken out on site. The weights are fitted with a screw cap with adjusting cavity below to the base. A feature only used on working standard weights.
